Using our templates they create systems to make their businesses run smoother and with greater profitability.

• They also provide a board of management to give each other support and draw on each others experience and ours to make better business decisions.

This is done in a corporate environment at our board room in Chatswood.

Introduction

Small businesses are predominant in the commerce of Australia and around the world. They are usually created and nurtured by dedicated entrepreneurs who work hard to grow their businesses.

Often these businesses are started because the business owner is gifted in a certain field and they realise that the market wants what they have to offer. The business is formed and the owner’s life is changed forever.

Usually the business owner has been trained and had experience in the field of the service or product they offer to the market. It is rare that a person contemplates a business and then embarks on an education programme to learn the intricacies of running a business.

Unfortunately, this is one reason why the mortality rates of fledgling businesses are so high.

The Business Strategy Forum is changing this. Our mission is to support small businesses and their owners to build well structured and successful businesses on a foundation of sound business principles. While doing this we understand the constraints on time and finance that small business owners operate under. So we have built a business model that supports them within the constraints.

When we designed The Business Strategy Forum we drew on years of Business consulting experience and years of owning and running small businesses.

We determined a few key parameters that the Forum would be governed by if it was to succeed in its mission to help small businesses:

• It had to be very time effective. We know that business owners can usually attend a meeting away from their business and feel comfortable for a short time. We decided that half a day each month would be a manageable time away from the business for every business owner – That is less than 2.5% of the time spent running a business.

• It had to be so affordable that price was never a barrier to using the Forum. In fact our aim was to price the Forum so a business owners natural reaction was that they would be less than prudent not to spend such a small amount to develop their business. We settled on $250 as an affordable monthly fee for almost any progressive business, regardless of its size.

• Business owners want results – not theory. We created a series of templates that could be used within minutes as tools addressing issues within the specific business they were being used in.

• Running a business can be a lonely and arduous job, sometimes with little support from others in the business. To provide a forum with support from like minded business people is a real asset to a business leader.

How The Business Strategy Forum works

Business owners and drivers join one of our Forum Boards. They meet at our boardroom for a half day each month. Being part of a group they support the group by a commitment to attend each forum over 10 months.

At these meetings a different topic will be presented each month. A list of example topics appears below. At the Forum a coach will present a template to build a system for your business that will be completed during the meeting and e-mailed back to you at work.

As Forum Board members understand each others businesses the process evolves into a Board of Management where systems are built and issues are solved in a group setting for each individual business.

Groups are restricted to a small number of businesses in non-competing types of business.
